About Brooklyn
Brooklyn creates uniquely beautiful acrylic and mixed media works of art by drawing vastly on inspiration from nature and the animal kingdom (which includes human animals). She intuitively brings elements of realism and abstract expressionism together in a way that is wild, yet feels natural. Brooklyn uses vibrant colors and a bold painting style with the intention of creating an uplifting energy in viewers.
Brooklyn’s message through her art is often about living in harmony with the natural world; embracing nature and taking care of the planet that all living things call home. She embodies this message by adopting sustainable art and business practices; utilizing recycled / reusable materials, partnering with environmentally focused production and distribution companies, and even donating a portion of profits to support organizations such as the Environmental Defense Fund.
This passion for sustainable living is further demonstrated in Brooklyn’s academic pursuits. She is currently studying to become an Architect to enable her to expand on her “green”, artistic endeavors to design affordable, sustainable, beautiful housing. Her small art business is her vehicle for funding her education and making this vision a reality.
Brooklyn describes her creative work style as following a very natural ebb and flow. She typically works in focused sessions when she is feeling a “burst” of creative energy. They tend to hit very early in the morning and last anywhere from a few hours to a few days if the mood strikes. When in the rhythm, she may be inspired to paint several paintings back-to-back before taking a brief hiatus from painting. While inspired, she lets herself paint as much as her heart desires and doesn’t try to force it too much when that energy is not there.
A key concept Brooklyn works to weave throughout both her artwork and her life is “simplifying”. She thinks of the art as a metaphor to life and works to distill her line work down to the marks that are the most important to the art, choosing to be intentional about only adding marks that will add value. Similarly, she works to distill her focus towards the things in life she most values in order to be able to give them her full energy.
When she’s not creating art, Brooklyn spends a lot of time exploring – new places, new ideas, new experiences, you name it! She considers herself to be quite a wanderer at heart, always traveling, learning new skills or otherwise finding new experiences. She loves learning about other people and their cultures, ways of living and especially their dancing and music. She allows her travels and adventures to inspire continuous evolution in her art and in her life.
